UN Climate Negotiations Task Force

We ensure that the voices of the next generation shape the future of climate action, aligning with the goals of the Paris Agreement to limit global warming to 1.5°C and create a sustainable future for all. However, climate diplomacy remains inaccessible to many young people and Global South community members.

Our Climate Negotiations Task Force empowers young leaders to amplify their policy solutions on the global stage by providing a platform for them to directly engage in climate diplomacy and advocate for meaningful change. Our program embeds youth within the youth constituency at climate negotiations and supports them in creating structured policy recommendations to amplify their solutions and policy perspectives.

Our Impact

  • Our delegates secured the first-ever inclusion of young people as key decision-makers in climate policy as part of the Action for Climate Empowerment Work Programme at COP27!

  • Our program has trained and support 150+ young people, primarily from the Global South and low income communities, in actively engaging in climate policy negotiations, including mitigation, finance, gender, loss and damage, ACE, and just transition.

  • Our delegates have convened, host, and participated in 300+ events, sharing their climate policy perspectives and stories for a climate just future.

  • Delegates facilitated training to countries’ ACE Focal Points and NDC decision-makers on meaningful youth inclusion practices.

  • COP is the supreme decision-making body of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change. It’s essentially where climate policymakers negotiate the future of climate action, giving a glimpse into impacts and efforts to mitigate climate change causing emissions to expect.   • Young people are the most vulnerable to climate impacts and are the closest to the generation that will inherit the outcomes of decisions made today. Giving young people a seat at the table allows them to help shape a future rooted in their image of the world and their needs, including the right to a sustainable future for generations to come.

  • The UN Framework Convention on Climate Change meets multiple times a year for mandated dialogues and discussions to move the negotiations forward. In addition to those events, the UNFCCC Secretariat hosts Climate Weeks and Subsidiary Body meetings for states part of the negotiations to discuss positions. Our program supports youth in each of these events.
